Course Structure

  • Health and safety information & housekeeping
  • Introduction with examples of concertina books and mounted prints. (participants will have time to go home with one or the other.)
  • An introduction to what sustainable foraging is, what to look for on a plant which will print well, how to condition a plant to get it ‘print ready.’
  • Demonstration of how to pull a basic print – the background, the botanical detail, both combined. Participants will mimic this.
  • Demonstration of how print layers combining different colours
  • Participants will explore different inks (as they have very different qualities) along with rotating their paper to print in different orientations
  • Some participants may wish to stick square, or circular cut outs of their prints on a concertina book- demonstrate good gluing techniques and use ph neutral glue
  • Others may want to simply mount a favourite print and keep the others as full sheet examples. Participants are given time to tape these into place.
  • Clean up.
  • By the end of the course participants will have a concertina book or mounted piece, as well as explorative test prints on squares of cartridge paper. They will also understand how to look after a brayer and gel plate should they take this creative activity up, post course.
  • Su will provide a list of stockists and notes explaining the print process, in the paper bag which people leave with.
